Greek Researcher Gets Award in German Bundestag for Work on Social Practices During Crisis

poulouAnastasia Poulou, a senior research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Social Law and Social Policy in Munich, received the second prize of the German Thesis Award by the Koerber Foundation. The award, given at the German Bundestag on Monday, comes attached with a 5,000-euro prize.

Nine awards were offered in total, with Poulou’s dissertation titled “The Protection of Social Rights During Times of Crisis. A Proposal to Reinforce the EU’s Social Dimension.” Poulou’s PhD in Law is from the University of Heidelberg and addresses the impact of the Eurozone crisis on social rights in the EU and the role of courts adjudicating social rights in times of crisis. Her current work investigates the new typology of European governance in the area of social policies and its impact on the design of national welfare systems.
